The building with the characteristic curved glass façade, built in the 1990s as a car showroom, is redesigned to host an area of contemporary aesthetics and pioneering way of working out, on a total area of 1,680m2.
The curved shape of the main elevation takes on a different dimension with the installation of white horizontal strips, which act as a shading medium and an aesthetic continuity between the interior and exterior. This façade curvature also defines the layout of all floor plans, as well as the form of the mechanical equipment. The building consists of two-storeys, with a specially designed roof for outdoor training.
The interventions in the building’s interior consisted of common industrial materials, such as timber pallets –a typical characteristic of ICON Fitness aesthetics in Greece and abroad, a visible metal skeleton and exposed mechanical equipment, which help in keeping in line with the industrial character and concept of ICON Fitness.
Some of the key elements within the space are the new perforated metal staircase, the suspended mezzanine with the linear niches and the characteristic « black box » entrance –featured in all ICON Fitness Clubs, lined with dark mirrors that allow the reflections of all surfaces and activities, while providing a transition from outside to inside and vice versa. The custom-made graphics, lighting and sound systems add a whole new dimension to the perception of the space and complete the design concept.
